Make-up Artists are key members of any production team. They work across multiple disciplines, ranging from fashion to music to commercials and flicks.

In any video or film, both hair and make-up are a significant element. A good Make-up Artist could easily transform a modern man into a Victorian woman immediately; or a worn out support artist into a supermodel! It won't be too much to say that they have a very magical brush that can change the fate of any average Joe.

Not surprisingly, they can be the first port of call for any cast member. This initial meeting with the talent is important as it sets the tone for the shoot. A great Make-up Artist can gauge the nerves and do his bit to unwind them. It's all the more important when the shoot involves shedding inhibitions or clothes within a d´┐Żbut or a nude scene.

Often a Make-up Artist acts as a confidante, playing fault a sounding board for your talent. You could easily think about them as being from the counsellor's chair in addition to their own. Despite popular beliefs, Make-up Artists don't merely slap-on the make-up; they are experienced with every manner of production and understand what is required. They adapt quickly for the needs of their client, sometimes working at a minute's notice.

Experienced make-up artists go through the script and shot list during the day in advance, just so they could assess timings and any alternative actions which might be needed.

Some make-up types may need a hefty amount of time, including the prosthetic make-up can take four or even more hours. When it's a large shoot, the primary Make-up Artist would work together with the top stars and others in the department help the cast. Sometimes, they may just be applying make-up to a endless stream of extras without setting their foot for the set.

There may be instances when they are brought in as consultants on previous projects they helped them, and other times some may just be focussing on blood and guts inside the prosthetic department.

However on smaller shoots, Make-up Artists share more responsibility and so are more deeply involved in the actual filming. They may have to meet with the production team and always work with together with them for the overall look and feel in the project, or help determine 3rd party suppliers for things like prosthetics.

They not only help with the make-up part, but also are responsible for creative inputs towards the director. They also remain alert to any allergies the subjects may have and ensure that they don't impact the application process.

Make-up Artists change from creating a look to touch up to creating another look, all in the span of hours for the set. They are always involved and not too busy for any quick perking up of the artist.
